So i'm playing around with my phone, and just for kicks decide to play with the voice recording feature. Basically, you hold a button on the side of the phone and say "Hey, remember to get eggs from the Circle K, queer," and it records it and stores it for you, and you'll have no excuse to not have breakfast the next day, except that the quality is bad and you might mistake "eggs" for "rum", but we're all human. Nothing wrong with a little rum before class anyway.
Actually it's kind of ridiculous, because finding the list of recorded messages is not easy, so I've pretty much neglected it, and that's why I never eat breakfast (that or the fact that I can't seem to drag myself out of bed before 2 PM, ever). Anyway, I never use it. Until I decided to play with it tonight.
Suprise, suprise, there were about 7 messages recorded on my phone. I was kinda confused...and then I noticed the times on all of them were around 2am-3am, on nights such as halloween or new year's eve. Hmm...interesting, what could i have possibly been doing then but stumbling around while blacked out? I was like "Hey, this HAS to be interesting! Maybe I've left myself crazy messages!"
Sadly, most of them were either only 1 second long or completely unintelligible. All but one, one that was left at 2:18am on October 31st, which would have been right after the Halloween party.
Now, it wasn't me talking in the recording, it was Dan, so I started to wonder what it was about. I knew I gave him my phone when I ran home/fell in the street naked, but the odd thing was that he didn't seem to realize it was recording and it was pretty clear. Now, in order to record on this phone, you need to have it open with a button held down and your mouth has to be pretty close. But there were clearly two people talking pretty loudly. How could that be accidental?
Then it hit me! Based on the conversation, and what I'd been told happened that night (yeah, like most weekends i was obliterated), I remembered that Dan had called Jodi and Rachel to try to convince them to come to our house after we got home around two. In the recording he was trying to persuade them with food (sure knows the way to a woman's heart), and then complained about a beeping noise, and the message stops. The phone can record conversations. Both sides. I guess Dan accidentally hit the button and recorded all that...
Now, since I was not mentally there at the time of this call, I had to do a little test. I called myself from my home phone and recorded myself talking to myself. Sure enough, I captured both sides.
The interesting thing about this is, it is illegal in Illinois to record a conversation without the consent of all parties, and illegal in every state to record audio without the consent of at least one party. In this case no one consented, no one knew they were being recorded. Only the phone knew, sneaky little Moto. I think I might need to turn it in to the authorities.
So yeah, from now on, don't trust me, I might record everything you say to me. Please don't arrest me.
