Ok so I reinstalled windows xp finally after greenville's network magically broke it, and it still was broken, so i did a REAL reinstall, and its broken, its just DIFFERENT broken. I keep getting a steady stream of delayed write errors and certain programs won't run, I restarted and scandisk like deleted a bunch of stuff it said was bad and all that junk... then BSOD'ed me. This sucker BLOWS and i HATE IT. I'm really sick of this stupid thing... You're a nonlinear device, you do what you are told, and yet.... you don't. WTF mates. I think i need a mac.
Will trade Athlon XP 2800+ system with 512mb pc2700 ram and 160gb hard drive and dvd burner for any mac system capable of running protools. I hate my life.

Posted by: Marv at September 22, 2004 12:12 AMI bought protools, and the supported hardware, and run my machine exactly as they specify. So when anything goes wrong on it, its a major frustration, obviously. I paid good money for that hardware/software. GOOD money. Nothing on my system has been futzed with in any way.
I've used the mac counterparts. I know that the XP support is a litttle funky yet (not much at all, but just a BIT) cuz its new. I've seen the computers that about a hundred students use and abuse up in the studios and they work REMARKABLY well still. Pretty good stuff. So i'm not totally talking out of my arse.
Anyway, using three versions of windows (because of a rather catclysmic windows XP crash that i still believe had its roots in greenville blowing up my computer), I finally am back to a working system. I am SOOO glad that I partitioned my hard drive, that's all I gotta say. I shouldn't have lost any data. Which is great.
