Song-Not-So-Weekly #32: Shoulda Been

So I haven't been keeping up with the Song-A-Weeks much. I might be done. I don't know. I've been having a DARNED hard time coming up with stuff. Its a lot harder to sit down with a guitar and hammer out a song than it used to be, probably because I used to store up my good ideas for a longer period of time, whereas now, they're gone about as fast as I get em.

Well, here's a rough idea called "Shoulda Been."

Shoulda Been
Copyright 2007 Matthew C Good

It's just another day in the warzone
with comforting soldiers,
But it's hard to hate what you don't mind.

With every step I take,
I am careful to narrow my eyes.
....................

Cameron tells me what I shoulda been
Says if I was smart I would listen
But I don't put much stock now it what he says
It's just another hairbrained suggestion
and I've already been through them in my head.

---

So yeah - eh, i'm just putting it out there. I don't think this song will find a home for a long time.

Today I am Thining About...

Today I am thinking about...
MySQL Stored Procedures!!!! - Just discovered this. Gotta figure out how to interface it in with php and...
Smarty, a php templating engine.
Also, I lost an auction for a Nintendo 64 on ebay. Those things are sooo fun! But now is probably the exact wrong time to be buying one... With Christmas looming and all.
Heck, who am I kidding? I'm still thinking about Ninjas

Today I Am Thinking About...

This is the first entry in what I hope will be a new, irregularly-posted feature on my blog.

Today I'm thinking about:
Ninjas
Trading an SM57 for an SM58, and how much I wish I had a pair of SM81's.
How much I want to be in a band and rock real hard

Goodbye, Old Friend

I'm preparing myself to lose a good friend soon - my roughly six-year-old laptop is about to meet its end. The right hinge has completely separated from the body again, and its straining the left hinge now - it won't be long until the whole LCD separates from the rest of the chassis. The laptop in question, an old Pentium III dell latitude c610 with an upgraded 768 megs of ram, a 40 gig hard drive and a 1400x1050 pixel lcd screen (!!!), was like my old Toyota Camry - it probably should have died long before it did. But we had been through some good and rough times together, and its had to see an old friend go, even if the thing is getting to be a bit slow, broken, dimly-lit, cracked, dirty, noisy, and non-functional.

So now the question becomes - what to do with a laptop that will likely be in two pieces in the very near future? I'm thinking about using it as a linux server to handle synching to the soon-to-be-debuted GDrive, along with any other server-related tasks (i.e. media sharing, etc) that need to be done around here. This is a dell, however, so there is the chance that the power adapter might EXPLODE iwhtout warning one day.

To replace this and my aging recording computer, I'm planning on building a sweet dual flat/widescreen recording/everything computer, and getting a cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep refurb laptop for internet and email while lounging around the house. Any thoughts on what awesome I should be sure to throw in the super-great desktop would be accepted.
